Mission Statement
The Hansen Foundation for Education seeks to empower underserved students in local and international communities to pursue their educational goals and effect productive change in their communities by supporting and funding education.
Philanthropic Philosophy
The Hansen Foundation for Education believes that, in order to more effectively and meaningfully support underserved students, it is important to invest in students' education by taking a two-step approach; first, by providing scholarships to enable students to pursue an education, and second, by improving and enriching the students' learning environment and access to necessary learning technologies.
Providing scholarships for underserved students is crucial because students not only gain the opportunity to receive a consistent and good-quality education, but also have the chance to strive towards their own academic and personal goals. As they advance in their education, students will likely learn more about themselves and their relationship to society and, with the skills learned from studying and interacting in school, will be better prepared to advance as they see fit and pursue their ambitions. The chance to achieve personal and academic goals and to have real impact on a community through pursuing an education empowers a student and gives him or her hope for future success.
Current Involvement
The Hansen Foundation for Education is currently supporting two projects in Naro Moru, Kenya to benefit the Naro Moru community and students in public primary and secondary schools. We also are involved with The Kenya Project at Batian’s View, whose mission is to sponsor talented, low-income students to receive the educational enrichment needed to contribute to Kenya’s development through character and leadership-building experiential education courses.
