2025 Project Rafiki

OttAwa hills high school & SLIK

Hamjambo (Greetings) Project Rafiki Family,

I am very excited to begin work on Project Rafiki 2025 and look forward to continuing the tradition of supporting young Kenyans and their communities through improvements to the schools where the Service Learning In Kenya (SLIK) students volunteer each summer.

A rising tide lifts all boats, and that is exactly what happened last year with your help as we met our fund raising goal of $27,000.00

The ‘boats’ in this case were 400 students who now have new desks of their own and hundreds of students at Rongai Primary School who benefitted from a new classroom AND the renovation of an old classroom into a full on science lab.

I must add that this is the FIRST science lab in a primary school in the Naro Moru area, which is definitely a big deal!!

Given the positive impact of these improvements, our goals for 2025 are very similar to provide more desks, classroom space, and the infrastructure to advance the education of hundreds of budding scientists.

Goal #1 – The purchase of 360 new desks to be divided by the nine schools where the SLIK students volunteer. Fundraising target - $14,000.00

Goal #2 – The construction of a new classroom/science lab at Rongai Primary School. Fundraising target - $16,000.00

Goal #3 – To surpass our fundraising target of $30,000.00 with additional funds sponsoring local primary school groups for teambuilding and leadership programs at Batian’s View Experiential Education Center.

I hope you will be a part of this year’s Project Rafiki campaign so we can continue to create a more positive learning environment for many students and educators in rural Kenya.

With gratitude,

Fred Roberts
